6 LGBT Athletes Who Changed The Game Forever

From: NewNowNext

Glenn Burke

You can thank baseball player Glenn Burke for the high five: In 1977, Burke ran on to the field to congratulate Dodgers teammate Dusty Baker on a game-winning home run. Rather than a hug or a handshake, Burke offered an upraised hand and Baker slapped it. The high five went on to become a famous symbol of camaraderie and athletic celebration. Ironically, Burke was often denied such camaraderie from coaches and teammates during his four-year career in professional baseball. He was outgoing, funny and an incredibly gifted athlete—the fact that Burke was gay was an open secret among his Dodgers teammates and managers. And while Burke maintained players didn’t care, Dodgers general manager Al Campanis reportedly offered to foot the bill for a lavish wedding. To which Burke responded: “To a woman?!” He also had a troubled relationship with Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda, who was furious Burke was hanging out with his son, Tommy Jr., in West Hollywood. After only two seasons with the Dodgers, Burke was traded to the Oakland A’s, where he was underutilized and isolated. (Some teammates reportedly even refused to shower with him.) The final “out” in Burke’s career came in 1980, when Billy Martin was hired as the A’s manager. Early in his tenure, Martin stood in the dugout, looked straight at Burke and declared, “I don’t want no faggot on my team.” By the end of the season Burke was released from his contract.

Free from clubhouse homophobia, Burke was at least able to come out publicly. He even competed in the first Gay Games in 1982, in track and field, and then in the 1986 Games in basketball—proof of what a well-rounded athlete he was.

In later years he struggled with drug addiction and homelessness, and finally succumbed to AIDS in 1995. He always maintained that prejudice against homosexuality “drove me out of baseball sooner than I should have [gone].”

Still, he took pride in his achievements, telling People magazine in 1994, “They can’t ever say now that a gay man can’t play in the majors, because I’m a gay man and I made it.”

Chris Hughes
Sean Eldridge
We have only begun to hear the names of these two, but the twentysomethings are already ambitious beyond most people's wildest dreams. Not only does Hughes have deep pockets as one of the original gang of Facebook, he was also the owner, publisher, and editor of the New Republic from 2012 to 2016. Eldridge may have made an unsuccessful bid for Congress, but we're still left asking: What will be next? We have decades to figure it out.

May 8th is Free Trade Day

Economics is a complex social science and its central themes– supply, demand, taxation – are discussed and disputed by commentators with allegiances to many different theoretical perspectives. Free Trade Day is one such perspective in modern economic debate. Advocates of the Free Trade movement argue in favor of an international trading environment that operates without taxes or trade barriers. In turn, supporters of Free Trade relate the absence of trade barriers to economic benefits such as lower prices for consumers and growth opportunities for producers.

Professional economists study the impact of trade and taxation policies in depth in an attempt to understand the drivers of growth and prosperity. For those of us who are not professional economists, learning to see the bigger picture of world markets can be much more challenging. If you are in the latter category, Free Trade Day could be a good starting point to learn more about an important school of economic thought.

May 8th is V-E Day

Victory in Europe Day, generally known as V-E Day, VE Day or simply V Day was the public holiday celebrated on 8 May 1945 (7 May in Commonwealth realms) to mark the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces. It thus marked the end of World War II in Europe.

The term VE Day existed as early as September 1944, in anticipation of victory. On 30 April 1945, Adolf Hitler, the Nazi leader, committed suicide during the Battle of Berlin. Germany's surrender, therefore, was authorised by his successor, Reichspräsident Karl Dönitz. The administration headed by Dönitz was known as the Flensburg Government. The act of military surrender was signed on 7 May in Reims, France and on 8 May in Berlin, Germany.

After regaining their independence from the Soviet Union, the Baltic countries now commemorate the end of World War II on 8 May, the Victory in Europe Day. In the Ukraine from 2015, 8 May was designated as a day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, but it is not a public holiday.

Playgirl Wants High School Football Player Who Exposed Himself In Yearbook to Pose Nude

From: Wicked Gay
A 19 year old named Hunter Osborn thought it would be funny (and it was) to show off his junk right as a group photo of him and his football team was taken for his high school yearbook.

Well apparently someone called the PC police and they now want to charge him with a long list of crimes.

"Nineteen-year-old Hunter Osborn sits at home wearing an electronic monitoring device. The Red Mountain High School Senior admits to exposing himself in this Varsity team football photo. He's been charged with 69 counts of indecent exposure and one count of furnishing harmful items to minors."
"When people told me about it I thought it was a big thing, but when I looked at it like you cant really tell, it's kinda hard to see," said Zach Anthony.

"At first, it was kind of like a joke, but then once we found out the consequences he has to face for this, we all feel really bad for him, and we don't think it's very fair," said Brooke Bodrero."

First of all, I think this is ridiculous and such a waste of police resources. He was just a boy being a goofy boy, plain and simple.

Well, all may not be lost for Hunter as Instinct reports that Playgirl would like to pay the 19 year old to pose nude. I smell tuition money! Should he do it? Yes or no?

May 8th is Mother's Day

Mothers Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Father's Day and Siblings Day.

In the United States, celebration of Mothers Day began in the early 20th century. It is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration (originally a commemoration of Mother Church, not motherhood). In some countries, Mothers Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.

Because I think at all my followers even when I’m on vacation! Good sunday guys an please follow me on my instagram @bibbideg thanks 😘😘
