‘Power Rangers’ makes history with first gay superhero on the big screen

From: LGBTQ Nation
The Power Rangers is making history as the first big budget movie to feature a gay superhero.

During the second act of the Lionsgate remake of the popular children’s TV show from the ’90s, Yellow Ranger Trini Kwan, played by Becky G, is shown struggling to accept her sexual orientation.

A character assumes she is having “boyfriend troubles,” before realizing that maybe she is actually having “girlfriend troubles” in a scene director Dean Israelite calls a “pivotal” moment in the film.

“For Trini, really she’s questioning a lot about who she is,” Israelite told The Hollywood Reporter. “She hasn’t fully figured it out yet. I think what’s great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, ‘That’s OK.’ The movie is saying, ‘That’s OK,’ and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe.”

LGBTQ representation on the screen has lagged behind comics. Characters like Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Batwoman, Harley Quinn, Deadpool, Northstar, and Ice Man have all been shown to be LGBTQ on the page, but not as much on the big onscreen.

LGBTQ superheroes have appeared on the small screen, with CW shows Legends of Tomorrow and Arrow featuring queer characters. Supergirl will also include a prominent lesbian story line this season. All three shows are produced by openly gay producer Greg Berlanti.

David Yost, who played the original Blue Power Ranger on the TV show and left after suffering anti-gay harassment while on set, has praised the move.

“They really stepped up to the plate,” says Yost. “I think so many people in the LGBTQI community are going to be excited to see that representation.”

‘I haven’t stopped crying since’ Tumblr revenge porn victim

From: NY Post
Tumblr acts as if it’s a staunch champion of women’s rights by supporting such groups as Planned Parenthood — but it still refuses to help tackle revenge porn, victims say.

A 27-year-old Bronx woman sued the blogging site in Manhattan Supreme Court last week after a tape of her having sex with her boyfriend 10 years ago, when she was just 17, was posted in December and shared 1,200 times.

The post included the woman’s name and a link to her Facebook page.

She only learned that the private X-rated video was on the site when strange men started contacting her through Facebook with obscene messages such as, “Did you like the way his cock felt? Sure looks like you did.”

“I was devastated,” the woman told The Post. “I haven’t stopped crying since.”

Tumblr finally removed the video three weeks after it was posted — a day after a reporter contacted the company.

But there are still plenty of other private, sexually explicit photos and videos being posted as part of so-called “revenge porn’’ by ex-lovers and others, victims say.

Meanwhile, Tumblr’s founder and CEO, David Karp, is on the board of such pro-women’s-rights groups as Planned Parenthood, leading a fundraising campaign that gave $80,000 to it last month.

Victims say they are outraged over the site’s apparent contradictory behavior.

“In my opinion, Tumblr has chosen to ignore valid legal demands because they earn more money using victims’ photographs as clickbait than they do protecting minors,” said the suing woman’s lawyer, Daniel Szalkiewicz.

“We review all reported content and remove any posts in violation of our community guidelines,” a Tumblr spokeswoman said.

But that’s not enough, critics say.

A 52-year-old mother of two discovered nearly a dozen private semi-naked images of her with her husband that had been posted to the site after she lost her phone.

“I don’t understand how a website could humiliate someone this way,” the California mom said, bursting into tears.

The posting included links to her LinkedIn and Facebook pages, as well as a recitation of her resume and the message “expose the whore.” It has been commented on more than 50,000 times.

Tony Craig
TV Presenter, Actor and Producer

From a very early age Tony had his life mapped out and knew exactly what he wanted to be… an Actor, Television presenter and an Astronaut!  From a small town on the outskirts of Manchester he decided not to discover the final frontier of space but to embark on a different journey into the world of show business –well two out of three weren’t bad!

As luck would have it 20 years ago he was walking through Manchester with a friend when they saw a sign “Do you think you could be a model? Free Seminar.” Thinking there would be hundreds of gorgeous girls in the queue, Tony decided to try his luck, little did he know that his life was about to change forever.  The agency signed him up on the spot and he instantly became one of their most in-demand models, becoming the face of high profile campaigns such as Debenhams designer clothes range, and Lotus cars… and no, unfortunately he didn’t get a free one!

After being a little “creative” with his CV he landed roles in musical theater performing in “Hello Dolly” and “Fiddler On The Roof” at the Royal Northern College of Music. He also played a variety of comedy roles for fringe productions, most notably “Eric” in Eric the Viking.

Various Television Presenting roles came next from Granada Men and Motors “Hot Source” and Manchester United TV “Reds at Five” and “Legends”.

At only 23 Tony decided to leave Manchester to live in London, working with the BBC on top rating kids shows like Xchange (BBC1), Saturday Show Extra (CBBC) and Top of The Pops Prime (BBC PRIME). He stayed with the BBC for 4 years and had the opportunity to act in sketches, go behind the scenes of Match of The Day, interview high profile bands and regularly be seen on the red carpet interviewing the stars.  His ability to ad-lib and think on his feet made him an obvious choice to host a wide range of live events from Miss Great Britain to The Clothes Show Live.

Since leaving the BBC Tony has pursued his love for acting, exploring a variety of roles.  He put himself on the map as a talented actor playing the lead role in "The Paranormal Project Live" and followed this with a move to LA to work and study acting in its golden screen home, Hollywood.  Returning to the UK in 2013, Tony is the new face of Hotels Combined national television campaign and has been head hunted for a leading role opposite Coronation Streets’ Natalie Gumede in the eagerly anticipated new series Sally The Life Coach.
